Quick question from your Bato Bucket photos posted from 4/19. What did you end up growing in them? How is the system producing?
Thanks for your interest in our Bato Bucket project. I should have updated that post. The owner of the project has planted a number of things as a trial run. She has planted broad beans, tomatoes, bitter gourd, turnips, swiss chard, beets, bottle gourd and a couple I am still unfamiliar with. These are ethnic plants common to India her native country. We did add a media grow bed to the system. I do have a few pictures of the system taken just a few days ago. The system was stocked with a variety of goldfish and Koi and is doing very well for a first startup.
Is the whole system running off of the fish then? Or is it split hydroponic/aquaponic?
Looks good!! Is the whole system running off of the fish then? Or is it split hydroponic/aquaponic?
The entire system is running off the fish. We have supplemented with some iron chelate and one does of fish emulsion just to help keep things in balance. Even my big system at home, which has been running now for almost 9 years, needs supplements now and then. Trace minerals are just hard to come by in the system from the fish so an occasional boost of fish emulsion and iron chelate are necessary. Fortunately, both are entirely organic and completely safe.
