“Organic” is a hot buzzword these days. You see it everywhere from food advertising to clothing. (Yes, I have seen clothing labeled as “Organic”). Ask a dozen people, and you will get that many different interpretations of “Organic.”
We view organic in a little different light. I would label our view as a more inclusive interpretation. You can learn more about our philosophy elsewhere on this website. In this section, we are concerned with gardening with an organic philosophy.
Organic has to mean more than “no pesticides or herbicides.” First, there are pesticides and herbicides that are completely organic and may be perfectly acceptable in an organic philosophy when used appropriately. Organic is more than the back to nature concepts that seem to be popular in some circles. While we certainly applaud anyone who is seeking to live more naturally, one must be aware of what is natural and what is man-induced.
Our gardening philosophy is soil based. We believe that soil is the focus of gardening. Wait, you say! What about the plants? I thought gardening was all about plants?
In our view, the plants, be they ornamental or food, are a part of the entire soil ecology. Without healthy soil, healthy plants cannot grow. Without healthy plants growing, soil health cannot be maintained. The two are inseparable.
So, we advocate for healthy soil. We want to help you build healthy soil in your landscape and garden. We will also help you chose plants wisely, plant them correctly, tend them lovingly and enjoy the results.
